Black Skin

There is little difference between black and white skin excep in the amount of pigmentation present.A number of skin problems common in blacks require no treatment.Pigment streaks in the nails are fairly common in blacks,as is excess pigmentation of the lips and gums, giving them a bluish hue.Brownish pigment in the white part of the eye and pigment spoto on the palms and soles are seen frequently, and the creases on the palms and the soles may be overly pigmented.Uneven pigmentation on the upper arm is also fairly common.Any loss of pigment must be investigated by a physician.Skin cancers are not as common in blacks as in whit, probably due to the protection of the skin from the sun by normal dark pigment.Multiple small black moles sometimes appear on the face of blacks, more often in females than in males, and may present a real cosmetic problem. It should be treated by a physician.
