Dieting and the skin

To be well balanced, any diet must provide at least 1,200 calories daily.Fad or unstructured diets are usually unbalanced for nutrients and place undue stress on the body,Fasting, unless only for a day or two, should always be done under a  doctor’s supervision.
Crash dieting, particularly if prolonged, can lead to hair loss in some people, and can cause the skin to dry out and have poor color and texture.Hair, like skin and nails,is made from protein and a starvation diet removes the building blocks for healthy skin, hair, and nails.Taking vitamins does not make up for poor nourishment, especially if you need protein. The average male adult needs about two ounces of protein daily, the average female slightly less.Protein can be obtained from foods of animal or vegetable origin.Vegeterians can get adequate protein by balancing their meals with protein-rich grains, cereals, and beans.
Dieting must be sensible not only for the exterior appearance, but also to avoid undue stress on the interior organs.Stay away from diuretic or fluid pills. They can dehydrate the skin and make it sallow and lifeless in texture. Also avoid any pills that are supposed to take away your appetite. They may aggravate any skin problems you have such as eczema, psoriasisor acne,as well as making you jumpy, nervous, and irritable.Do not believe ads in magazine and newspapers that offer miracle weight  loss, foods, powders, pills, and so on.Spend your money more wisely by joining weight watchers, diet workshop, overeaters Anonymous,or a similar group.Or better yet, exercise more – daily if possible -and eat half your usual portions. This requires only a little time and sweat, and at the same time you save money on food not eaten. Many people have done it and you can too.
